May the Fourth be with you !

Yes, Saturday the 4th May 2013 was the 3rd time that Peaty’s Steel City Mini Downhill had taken place and I was there for the first time. I just caught the last hour of the race and what a great time it was. Various Star Wars characters were in residence including Chewbacca masquerading as a marshall and the great Steve Peat in full Stormtrooper outfit.

The event takes place on a purpose built track in Grenoside Woods to the north of Sheffield. I’ve ridden in the woods before but not on the downhill section – maybe I’ll give it a go one day at a slightly slower pace than the competitors ! There were some serious jumps and a huge bomb hole to finish. Fortunately each ‘nasty’ bit had an escape route but a few people still came a cropper by not spotting it early enough.

And the winner was … well Steve Peat again as you may well have guessed.
